About SeattleVolleyball.NET

This site originated from a volleyball list circulated around University of Washington via e-mail circa 1995. A former teammate, Debbie Espinosa, sent me the initial list of open gyms and leagues, which I posted to a personal home page.

The demand for recreational space in King County is increasing.  As the population expands - ball fields, trails, and other public open spaces receive higher-impact use.  Soccer, ultimate frisbee, even dog owners lobby the city/county for new and improved access to facilities.

As funding for school athletic programs drops, local Community Centers provide facilities for k-12 students, mostly interested in basketbal (offered approximately 7:1 over volleyball!) If you are interested in the politics of open gym space, read the Agreement for Joint Use of Facilities (drafted in 2000) between The Seattle School District No. 1 and The Seattle Parks and Recreation Dept.

Today, SeattleVolleyball.NET is the most popular Seattle volleyball site on Google. I've met players and friends from all over:  Canada, Germany, Netherlands, and others. Players can find the site through most major search engines by searching for Seattle volleyball.

Thank you to Scott Malloy for the SeattleVolleyball.NET logo. Special thanks to my cousin, Charlie Schmidt, who developed the MySql and PHP code in July 2005 to improve the players pages.

The volleyball community still lacks a central voice.  My hope is that SeattleVolleyball.NET's resources will help build a stronger regional volleyball community, improving playing opportunities for all.

SeattleVolleyball.net today receives over 1,700 unique visitors per month. The site is developed in Adobe GoLive and is optimized for Mozilla Firefox (Get Mozilla Firefox today).

About Scott Marlow

Originally from St. Louis, I moved to Seattle from Indianapolis in 1993. I wanted to find an activity that did not require as much time as mountain biking.Scott Marlow

I enrolled in Adult Volleyball Education's Beginner Instruction Class at Lincoln HS in Wallingford [now closed to adult recreation programs].  I continued through AVE's Intermediate and Advanced level courses [instructed by Herman Chinn and David Roast, and currently organized by Gene Burt] at Queen Anne HS [until that facility was leased to a basketball organization offering Seattle Parks & Recreation Dept more money].

You can find me substituting for indoor teams, and playing some beach ball at Golden Gardens.  I've played in the following leagues and gyms:

Architects & Engineers, Bellevue Community College Sports, Kirkland Parks & Recreation, North Beach Volleyball, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle Parks & Recreation, Seattle Sport & Social Club, Sound Mind & Body Gym, Spike & Dig Volleyball; Cleveland HS, Ingraham HS, Mercer Island, Miller Community Center, Roosevelt HS, and Seattle Community College.

I particularly enjoy attending the annual Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament

See ya on the court,

Scott Marlow
